How it feels to have a "maintain"
I ate out at least 8 times (possibly 9) between weighing in on 27th November and again on 4th December.
I had a week off work; a trip to London, a 4 day break in Brussels and a visit from an old friend.
But I didn't put on weight!

Mug Shots vs Mug Shots
I have relied on a Mug Shot quite a few times now, when I've been running late for work and haven't had chance to load myself up with copious amounts of prepared grub, or when I've devoured my lunch and feel peckish later in the day...
1% Mug Shots are supposed to be syn free. Supposed to be.
The left sachet actually has 1 syn, the right sachet is free.
Useful to know!

Two different style Mug Shot's. Both 1% fat. Both tomato flavour.

The Global Fat Scale
This is an interesting calculator I found on the BBC. They used official UN data for over 150 countries to work out average BMI's and put it on a scale.
Global Fat Scale Calculator
My current position on the global fat scale |
I started as most like a Somoan, then moved down to Belarus, then Soloman Islands, then the Bahamas and now I'm back at the Solomon Islands.
For me this is a fun way to measure stuff. I guess the ideal would be to be most like someone from the UK. Or even better, Latvia (they're on the average BMI line).
I feel like I should add that there are many arguments and concerns regarding BMI, which I am not going into. This calculator was also created in 2012 and god knows how old the UN data is.
It's just a bit of fun.
If you are going to base your weight loss goals on this; I suggest you re-think the reasons you're on a diet.

My first gain
I didn't take a photo and I haven't yet looked at it written down in my book.
I did however sulk during group, until it came to my turn, where I BURST INTO TEARS.
How embarrassing!!!
I put on the grand total of 0.5lbs. As in half of one pound or 227g.
Now I might sound pathetic. But it's all relative, right? If I only lose around 1 pound per week, then for me putting on half a pound is quite a big deal. I can't afford to be going backwards like this, can I.
Well there were 2 vodka-fuelled incidents this week that were off plan and out of my syn allowance.
On Friday night I ate about 8 biscuits and 2 packets of 15g Haribo Starmix.
Last night I came home and STOLE a slice of domino's from my housemate that I found on the side in the kitchen. Neither of these incidents were planned and they must have lead to my GAIN. Bad karma for stealing food.
But it just doesn't seem fair. Another woman at group claimed to have binged all week, including eating 3/4 of a packet of biscuits and she lost 0.5lb. To be fair I think I would have been as upset if I had stayed the same or only lost 0.5lb but thats besides the point. I go wrong once (ok twice) and that's it- I have to pay the consequences.
It sucks.
Particularly as I've had an average of 12 speed foods per day and eaten about 7 portions of speed soup in the last 2 weeks!!!
Anyway- everyone at group was lovely and gave me loads of advice and support. I'm going to re-read my materials over the next couple of days and get back on it. I aim to lose 1.5lbs next week to make up for it.
How do you deal with a dreaded gain?

777 challenge- a week of 7 speed foods and 7 glasses of water (supposed to be 7 syns too, but meh!)
This is a challenge that I stumbled across on my beloved minimins.com.
The purpose of it is to speed up, or increase your weight loss in any one week. You cut your syns down to 7, drink 7 glasses of water and make sure to eat 7 speed foods.
Speed foods are highlighted by SW in the book as being low in density. Now I do not know what this means, but they supposedly speed your weightloss.
I am going to try and loosely follow this for a week, my main concern being to ensure I have 7 speed foods each day and highlighting them in my diary below:-

What is a pound?
We keep talking pounds and stone.
Great Britain and Ireland are (apparently) the only places to still use stone, and for those who don't know 14lbs makes one stone.
Anyway- what does this pound look like?
I don't know.
But this is what 2lbs looks like:-

Feeling heavy
I may have mentioned before a wonderful forum website I use called minimins.
I thoroughly recommend it for help, support, laughs and advice.
Thought I would share last nights post as I wasn't the only one to have felt like this:-

Slimming World- day 5 review
Am I slim? No. Am I getting there? I do not know. I have hope.
Shop bought low syn/ syn free lunch
Fail to prepare, prepare to fail.
Oh, how true this one is Mr. Franklin!
Me before Slimming World:-
Wake up at 8:15am, leave the house at 8:30am, get to work, buy egg and cress sandwich, orange juice and maybe some sort of chocolate brownie. STUFF MY FACE. Get to lunch time and pig out bigtime. As I had already had a sandwich for breakfast I need something different right? So PROPER meal it is- veggie burger and chips; cheesey jacket potato; quiche and salad. I'm talking mega food. And then a chocolate bar. And maybe a pack of crisps for the 3pm dip. Get home. Ready meal. Sharing bag of crisps. Chocolate/cake/ice-cream. Bed.
Fail to prepare, prepare to fail.
However, IF, the alarm clock should fail to stir you in the early hours of these oh-so-cold mornings- what can you grab for lunch on the go? (Writing this I feel there should definitely be a breakfast on the go collection.)For my own record here are some low syn/ syn free store bought SW friendly lunches that I have enjoyed. YUM.

Raw Carrot
My new favourite snack Loads of great health benefits of carrots here:- http://www.care2.com/greenliving/10-benefits-of-carrots.html |
.notes.
I am on the Extra Easy Slimming World plan.
You're pretty much able to eat as much fruit, veg, beans, meat and wholemeal pasta rice etc as you like. You then are entitled to 15 syns per day. Anything that isn't the above has a syn value.
HEx A- Healthy Extra A choice- Dairy food that is high in calcium. Must have one HEx A per day.
HEx B- Healthy Extra B choice- Foods that are high in fibre or contain important nutrients for a healthy balanced diet. Must have one HEx B per day.
FryLight is SYN FREE. Use it to cook with instead of vegetable/sunflower/olive oil. My SW (Slimming World) consultant famously told me to- "Squirt till it hurts" in regards to how much to use.
I do not represent Slimming World in any way shape or form. I have only been on the plan for 4 days at the time of writing this and am blogging my journey purely for my own benefit. I find when I blog it helps keep me on track.
